Week 1 · Monday · Psalm 130: Out of the Depths
For today
A night watchman does not make the sun rise; he only knows it will. Wait for the Lord like that today, with your hope resting on his word rather than on how you feel.
Begin with these verses
verse 5I wait for the LORD; my soul does wait, and in His word I put my hope. verse 6My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning— more than watchmen wait for the morning.
verse 7O Israel, put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is loving devotion, and with Him is redemption in abundance. verse 8And He will redeem Israel from all iniquity.

The psalm ends in hope that the LORD himself will redeem his people from all their sins. At the first Advent the angel told Joseph to name the child Jesus, because he would rescue his people from their sins.
She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”
