Week 4 · Friday · Psalm 96: Sing to the LORD a New Song

The Church has long sung this psalm at Christmas. Heaven, earth, sea and trees all join in, for the Lord comes; add your own voice, however quiet.

verse 1Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. verse 2Sing to the LORD, bless His name; proclaim His salvation day after day. verse 3Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples.
verse 11Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice; let the sea resound, and all that fills it. verse 12Let the fields exult, and all that is in them. Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy verse 13before the LORD, for He is coming— He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in His faithfulness.

The good news of great joy is for all the people, as this psalm calls all the earth to sing. The Lord who comes to judge the world in righteousness will do it through Jesus, whom God raised from the dead.
verse 10But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid! For behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: verse 11Today in the city of David a Savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord!
For He has set a day when He will judge the world with justice by the Man He has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising Him from the dead.”
