For today
In the darkest weeks of the year, this psalm names the Lord as light and ends with a plain instruction: wait for the Lord, and be strong. Hear it as an invitation, not a scolding.

John's Gospel opens with the true light coming into the world, a light the darkness has not overcome. Jesus later says that whoever follows him will not walk in darkness.
verse 4In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. verse 5The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
The true Light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.
Once again, Jesus spoke to the people and said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”
