Attributed to David, Psalm 24 is a liturgy for a procession up to the sanctuary, perhaps when the ark was brought into Jerusalem. Its call and answer at the gates suggests it was sung by alternating voices. The church has long sung it on Ascension Day and Palm Sunday.
