Week 2 · Friday · Psalm 90: Teach Us to Number Our Days
For today
God has been our dwelling place in every generation, and his time is not our time. Ask him to teach you to number your days, so that this Advent is lived with a wise heart.
Begin with these verses
verse 1Lord, You have been our dwelling place through all generations. verse 2Before the mountains were born or You brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God.
For in Your sight a thousand years are but a day that passes, or a watch of the night.
So teach us to number our days, that we may present a heart of wisdom.

The New Testament echoes this psalm · verse 4
Peter draws on this psalm when believers wonder why the Lord's return seems slow: with the Lord a thousand years are like a day, and his delay is patience, not neglect. Advent keeps watch for that coming too.
verse 8Beloved, do not let this one thing escape your notice: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. verse 9The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise as some understand slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance.
so also Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who eagerly await Him.
