Week 3 · Monday · Psalm 146: Do Not Trust in Princes
For today
Do not put your trust in princes, the psalm says, but in the God who keeps faith forever. Look at the list of what he does, and notice who is on it.

verse 5Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, verse 6the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. He remains faithful forever. verse 7He executes justice for the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets the prisoners free,
verse 8the LORD opens the eyes of the blind, the LORD lifts those who are weighed down, the LORD loves the righteous. verse 9The LORD protects foreigners; He sustains the fatherless and the widow, but the ways of the wicked He frustrates.

When John the Baptist asked from prison whether Jesus was the one to come, Jesus pointed to works like these: the blind receive sight, and the poor hear good news.
verse 2Meanwhile John heard in prison about the works of Christ, and he sent his disciples verse 3to ask Him, “Are You the One who was to come, or should we look for someone else?” verse 4Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: verse 5The blind receive sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.
