Tears and harvest
Week 3 · Sunday · Psalm 126: Those Who Sow in Tears
For today
This psalm remembers laughter and still asks for more restoring. If you are sowing in tears this season, it holds out a harvest of joy without pretending the tears are not real.

verse 1When the LORD restored the captives of Zion, we were like dreamers. verse 2Then our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with shouts of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.” verse 3The LORD has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.
verse 5Those who sow in tears will reap with shouts of joy. verse 6He who goes out weeping, bearing a trail of seed, will surely return with shouts of joy, carrying sheaves of grain.

On the night before he died, Jesus told his friends that their grief would turn to joy, a joy no one could take from them.
verse 20Truly, truly, I tell you, you will weep and wail while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. verse 21A woman has pain in childbirth because her time has come; but when she brings forth her child, she forgets her anguish because of her joy that a child has been born into the world. verse 22So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.
