Righteousness and peace
Week 2 · Sunday · Psalm 85: Love and Faithfulness Meet
For today
This psalm listens for what God will say, and hears peace for his people. Picture steadfast love and faithfulness meeting, righteousness and peace embracing, and let that be the shape of your hope this week.
Begin with these verses
verse 8I will listen to what God the LORD will say; for He will surely speak peace to His people and His saints; He will not let them return to folly. verse 9Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, that His glory may dwell in our land.
verse 10Loving devotion and faithfulness have joined together; righteousness and peace have kissed. verse 11Faithfulness sprouts from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven.

How this psalm points to Jesus
A theme the whole Bible completes in Christ · verse 10
At Bethlehem the angels sang of peace on earth, and at the cross love and justice met. In Christ, God is both just and the one who justifies those who trust in Jesus.
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests!”
verse 25God presented Him as an atoning sacrifice in His blood through faith, in order to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance He had passed over the sins committed beforehand. verse 26He did this to demonstrate His righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and to justify the one who has faith in Jesus.
The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
