verse 1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. verse 2He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. verse 3He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for the sake of His name.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

How this psalm points to Jesus
The New Testament echoes this psalm · verse 1
Jesus calls himself the good shepherd, who knows his sheep by name and lays down his life for them.
The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen for his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.
verse 14I am the good shepherd. I know My sheep and My sheep know Me, verse 15just as the Father knows Me and I know the Father. And I lay down My life for the sheep.
