For today
In the days after he entered Jerusalem, Jesus taught in the temple and answered his questioners. He ended by asking them about this psalm, and the question still stands for us.

verse 1The LORD said to my Lord: “Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.” verse 2The LORD extends Your mighty scepter from Zion: “Rule in the midst of Your enemies.”
The LORD has sworn and will not change His mind: “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”

How this psalm points to Jesus
The New Testament quotes this psalm · verse 1
Jesus asked how the Messiah can be David's son if David, by the Holy Spirit, calls him Lord. After the resurrection Peter proclaimed that God has made this Jesus both Lord and Christ.
verse 35While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, He asked, “How can the scribes say that the Christ is the Son of David? verse 36Speaking by the Holy Spirit, David himself declared: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand until I put Your enemies under Your feet.”’ verse 37David himself calls Him ‘Lord.’ So how can He be David’s son?” And the large crowd listened to Him with delight.
verse 34For David did not ascend into heaven, but he himself says: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand verse 35until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”’ verse 36Therefore let all Israel know with certainty that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ!”
